What You Should Already Know:
There are no prerequisites for this course.
The conformal coating course is designed for production staff, operators and inspectors, providing a visual overview of conformal coatings. The course will explain why coatings are used and review the specifics of common coating materials including silicones, acrylics, urethanes, epoxies, and paraxylenes.
The course will demonstrate the application processes used when applying coatings for brushing, spraying, dip coating, selective robotic spraying, and vapor deposition. The conformal coating course also covers masking, curing, coverage and thickness measurement techniques.
Detailed demonstrations on visually inspecting of coatings (in both white and UV light) to IPC-A-610 standard acceptance criteria are covered. The demonstration will review coverage, thickness, and common defects – including bridging, uncured, discoloration, bubbles, cracking, orange peel, peeling or flaking, and entrapped materials. Process indicators are also reviewed.
• Improve quality of finished boards using conformal coatings
• Demonstrate proper application processes for conformal coatings
• Demonstrate understanding of acceptance criteria to IPC-A-610 for coatings
• Improve evaluation methods of coatings on finished boards
Course Time: 20 Minutes
Testing & Certification:
A Certificate of Completion will be issued to the student upon completion of the testing requirement of the course. A passing grade of 70% is needed to receive the certificate. The student will be allowed to take the test three times. If a passing grade is not achieved after the third test, the course will be locked and the student must repurchase the course.
